Ruined by Paula Morris

When I saw this book on the cart at work I snatched it up because the cover caught my eye. I mean come on a cemetery and a ethereal girl whats not to like. Then I read the synopsis and was intrigued even more. I love New Orleans and a ghost story set in that amazing city is right up my alley. Then I started reading, and I have to say I am somewhat disappointed. I think the author had a good idea but things throughout the book were very predictable. I like Rebecca and I understood her curiosity when it came to the cemetery but I think things got a little out of hand. Some of the characters were a little overdone and then there were some that there wasn't enough about them. Aston is one of the underdone characters. Throughout the book you see glimpses of the amazing character he could be but never fully reaches.

I did like how the author explains some of the traditions of Mardi Gras and the krewes that are involved in the parades. I also like the author explaining how the different groups of people that helped settle New Orleans and how that affects the city today. Overall, this book left me wanting more and not in a good way. I felt there was more to be brought to the story but was not delivered. I'm not sure if this is the beginning of a series and if so I hope that it will get better. I'd be willing to give the author another chance.
