I was given an advanced copy of this book in return for my honest review.
Second Star is a retelling of the Peter Pan story. Set in California in present day the book centers on Wendy Darling. After her twin brothers, John and Michael go missing she finds herself in a desperate attempt to discover what happened to them. In doing so she meets Pete and his gang of surfers who live in an abandoned house on the beach. Pete and his band surf and live by their own set of rules and soon Wendy becomes part of their group. In the search for her brothers so also meets Jas, a drug dealer who's speciality is a drug called "fairy dust". What Wendy soon learns will change everything.
Overall this book is well written. The author does a great job of keeping some of the original elements of the characters intact while adding some things of her own. There is a live triangle between Wendy, Pete and Jas. Once each character is introduced its pretty easy to see who is who. The book drags a little in the middle and the love story is pretty predictable but overall the book is good. I recommend it for a quick read.
